An Illogical Woman Chapter 7: Meeting the Family

Spock walked onto the bridge to begin his shift. Two standard weeks had passed since his return to the Enterprise from his leave on New Vulcan. He and Nyota had enjoyed a one-month leave from duty to attend the bonding ceremony of his daughter Makeda to her friend Tuven, son of Swylek. He had initially been uneasy about bonding his daughter with another according to the custom of his people given his own less than satisfactory experience with T’Pring, despite his father’s arguments that doing so would demonstrate his commitment to the success of the Vulcan rebuilding efforts. Sarek also reasoned that bonding Makeda to a Vulcan from the colony would assist her in being accepted by Vulcan society. Spock had found such reasoning to be faulty since his own betrothal to T’Pring had done little to endear him to his peers or the Vulcan council. However, when Tuven himself approached his sa’mekh requesting to marry Makeda, these anxieties were greatly alleviated. Spock was well aware of Makeda’s affection for the young Vulcan, as she spoke of him constantly during their weekly three-dimensional chess games. Spock found it most fascinating that a Vulcan youth would so readily accept Makeda in all her human exuberance and warmth.

Chapter 6: A Private Audience

“You have a visitor, Tuven.”

Tuven stood from his seat at the sound of his m’aih’s voice. He smoothed down his tunic as he waited for his guest to be shown into his room. He was pleased when Makeda appeared in the doorway, her bright pink dress a stark contrast to the dark indigo robes his mother wore behind her. Read more... )

Chapter 5: First Meetings

Tuven watched the small human child walk slowly through the halls of the Surak Learning Academy. She held on tightly to the hand of her mother, a short slim dark skinned human dressed in traditional Vulcan robes. Beside them walked a tall older Vulcan that Tuven knew as Ambassador Sarek, New Vulcan’s ambassador to Earth and an important member of the Vulcan council. The small child lacked the confidence of her mother and the Ambassador. She looked around at her surroundings with wide brown eyes filled with a mixture of anxiety and excitement that Tuven found fascinating. Tuven found everything about the small human to be fascinating; from the way her small figure swam in the school robes that were too large for her, how the slightest tinge of pink could be seen in her warm brown cheeks, to how the wild untamed dark brown spirals of her hair framed her face like a halo. Suddenly, the little girl turned and looked straight at him. Tuven found himself holding his breath as the small human smiled at him, a wide engaging grin that displayed the gap left from a missing upper incisor and a small depression in the flesh of her right cheek. The child waved at him energetically, only to be gently reprimanded by the ambassador. Tuven watched silently as the trio entered the schoolmaster’s office, the small human looking back over her shoulder to smile at him once more.

An Illogical Woman: Chapter 4

A/N: So I originally thought of this story as a spin off from the Illogical Woman series as a story all about Makeda Uhura growing up and her relationship with Tuven, a young Vulcan boy she befriends while attending school on the Vulcan colony once Spock and Nyota decide that her distance learning classes on the Enterprise are not adequate for her rapidly growing intellect. The story takes place when Makeda is about six years old and in the equivalent of elementary school. I'll probably do more one shots of Makeda growing up and include Tuven's perspective alongside Spock, Spock Prime and Sarek. Now I see this series as centering around our three main Vulcan males and their thoughts on the illogical human women at the center of their lives.

Chapter 4: Yesterday is Today

Sarek walked stoically through the halls of the Surak Learning Academy. The path he took was a familiar one, despite the fact that the floor upon which he trod was new as was the planet on which the foundation of the building was set. Those old halls had disappeared along with his homeland and beloved wife. Though his surroundings were new, his reason for walking the halls of the school were familiar.

A/N:  So, here is Chapter 10 hot off the presses! We've finally made it to the Netherfield Ball! I hope that you enjoy.

Pride and Logic Chapter 10

Nyota stood before her closet contemplating what to wear for yet another ball. Instead of an exclusive Academy formal, this ball was a Starfleet affair, a grand ball put on to honor the newly crowned queen of Sydothia. Nyota was extremely excited about the evening’s ball as it would give her an opportunity to interact with dignitaries and representatives from nearly all of the Federation member planets. She was also anxious to see Sybok again. Since meeting him two weeks prior, Nyota had only seen Sybok twice more. They danced together at Sulu’s birthday party last Sunday and she had run into him during her walk home from her first practice session with Commander Spock a few days ago.

A/N: So here is the third chapter. This chapter was written by Spocklikescats. We are co-authoring this as a round robin. As before, if you have any ideas for this story, please share them!

Mail Order Bride Part 3

Ambassador Sarek, respected Vulcan, sat on the terrace of Terra’s Vulcan Embassy.

He was remembering his Human wife, who had died so shockingly, and so young. They had looked forward to another forty or fifty years together, but Nero had destroyed Sarek’s planet and Amanda had died.Sarek sighed. It was now nearly five years since that terrible day. He had supervised the early marriage-matching efforts, computer-matching compatible Vulcan males and females, but would not participate in the repopulation effort personally. He was personally disgusted by the idea of making a “biological” donation as his son had done, and put off by the idea of marriage with a Vulcan woman. So, he had applied to the Vulcan Bridal Exchange program, known among the Humans as the “Mail-Order Bride” program.

NaNoWriMo

  • Nov. 3rd, 2009 at 12:25 PM

So, I decided today to take the NaNoWriMo plunge. I am working on so many different stories, but I thought it might be fun to give this a try for an original idea I've been kicking around for a while based on a cracktastic dream I had a few years ago. Since the novel doesn't have to be good at all, then what's the harm in writing?

My story is a paranormal sci-fi adventure/ romance. It will probably be awful, but something that M. Night Shyamalan would make into a movie staring Nicholas Cage that would play on the CW on Saturday afternoons.

 Love and Prejudice Chapter 17

Mary sat on her bed surrounded by Elizabeth, Georgiana and Beatrice, who were busily fretting over her, true to Darcy’s word. Mary was relieved to be back at Pemberley surrounded by friends, but she was anxious about relating the story of what sent her running into the woods to her friends. She had managed to keep the tale from Derek during the ride back to Pemberley. He had been so relieved to see find her unharmed, that he had not persisted in his questioning. However, after much gentle and earnest pleading by Elizabeth, Mary was persuaded to tell them what happened. The ladies responded with equal measures of shock and anger.

Chapter 2

Dawn followed the Starfleet officer through the spartanly decorated halls of the Vulcan embassy. As they walked, they passed by several Vulcans whom all greeted her with serene nods of the head. Dawn was too nervous to offer more than a stilted bow of her own head, her anxiety giving her a Vulcan-like emotional detachment.

Dawn said farewell to the last of her party guests. It was well after one in the morning and she was completely foxed. She plopped down on the sofa in her room with a great sigh, kicking off her high-heeled shoes as she surveyed her apartment. The place was a mess. Streamers, confetti, half-empty bottles of Andorian wine and plates dirty with the remnants of actual hand made dark chocolate raspberry cake littered the room. However, as it was her birthday…well, the morning after her birthday, Dawn made no move to tidy the room.

Dawn McKenzie sighed before closing her eyes and leaning her head back on the sofa behind her. She was now thirty years old. She had a successful career as a civilian professor at Starfleet Academy, a group of loyal friends, a family that loved her, an adorable cat named Candy and a modest condo overlooking the bay to call home. Her life was good. However, despite all this, Dawn could not help but feel a little empty. She was lonely. She was thirty years old and she had never had a real relationship. She had dated a few men, but those dates had never turned into relationships. They had all failed to excite her. They were too interested on their careers or advancement within Starfleet. When she dated outside of Starfleet, she had not met anyone that could challenge her mind, which for Dawn was the key to exciting her libido. She was thirty years old and if she did not lower her standards or take drastic action, she felt doomed to spend the rest of her life alone.

A/N: So here is chapter 16. I am trying to churn these bad boys out faster so that this story can be closer to completion. I do hope to have them all past Tweltfh Night before Twelfth Night 2010 rolls around! Next chapter brings the ball, the wicked cousins getting a bit of their just deserts and some relief for poor Mary and Richard. Please forgive (but feel free to point out) any errors. I promised to have this chapter out this week and rushed through my read through. I've taken to reading it out loud complete with bad classical Britsh accents. Its silly but fun!

Uhura laughed gaily as Sybok walked her back to the booth where their friends awaited them. She had only intended to dance once with Sybok, but he had somehow persuaded her to dance through five more songs. By the time she returned to the booth, Kirk was slumped over the table in a drunken stupor.

“I think that you should wear this outfit. It would show off your bottom rather nicely,” Gaila chirped happily as she laid out yet another outfit on Nyota’s bed.

“For the last time, Gaila, I am not going on a date. It is just drinks with Len and the boys,” Nyota sighed as she picked up the offending outfit to hand it back to her roommate.

Note: Hey Chicas! Here is Chapter 7 of Pride and Logic. Sorry for the delay! Wickham finally makes his appearance. Enjoy!

Pride and Logic Chapter 7

After their return from Theta Sigma, Gaila and Nyota had but a short break before the start of the Winter Quarter. Both girls spent the brief week with Nyota’s family in Kenya enjoying home cooked meals and the warmth of the African sun before being thrown once again into their graduate studies. While Nyota was always excited to begin a new term, she viewed her new class schedule with some trepidation. Commander Spock’s Advanced Vulcan Language and Culture seminar was on Thursday nights. Nyota’s time on Theta Sigma had served to temper her dislike of Commander Spock, but she still had trouble sketching his character. He could be proud and aloof yet also be witty and even warm in his interactions with his friends and herself. Spock’s pale olive feet against the cool dark floors and his long fingers gracefully moving across the lyre as he was absorbed in his music still haunted her.
